‘As a club and as a small community we are absolutely devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of our life member, team mate, club legend and friend,’ it said.

‘Boony was a one of a kind larrikin who filled the room with smiles and laughter.

‘Our lives are better for knowing him and sharing so many wonderful memories with such a treasured friend.’

The club said they would be supporting Bec and her children every step of the way and urged people to reach out if they needed someone to lean on.

The Forest-Stanley Football Club said words couldn’t describe the pain of the loss.

‘Everyone’s mate, our coach & player. You were always positive, our number 13,’ a statement on Facebook read.

‘You made people so welcome. You gave us hope even when the chips were down.

‘The club sends all our love to Bec and their kids Hudson, Jordy and Marni. To all the family, we can’t imagine what you are going through. Just know we are all having a tear and smile thinking of the great person and fun loving guy Damien (Boony) was.’

A GoFundMe page has raised almost $60,000 for the Medwin family.

Organiser Nic Bellinger said the footballer had always been the life of the party and the first to put a positive spin on things.

‘With a long, tough road ahead for Bec and the kids this is a way people near and far can provide some support to allow these beautiful people the time to grieve and love each other as they try to deal and navigate there way through the tragic loss of a very loving husband and father,’ he wrote.

More to come.
