Minden residents hope legal challenge will stop local emergency room from closing, May 22
Minden residents, watch out.
If the experience of Shelburne, Ont, is anything to go by you will no longer have a hospital in the future. In the 1980s, Shelburne had a full-serve hospital with an ER. In the early ’90s, the ER closed down. In later years, all patients were transferred to Orangeville while Shelburne became a chronic care facility.
Each time the use changed, the claim was millions of dollars were needed to renovate. And yet in 2014, $4.1 million was spent to refurbish it into senior apartments, and their population is now almost 10 times what it was in the 1980s.
Don’t let that happen to you, Minden.
